If you want to cut down on frequent trips out to the wood pile, get yourself a log carrier.

If you regularly carry firewood from an outdoor woodpile to your fireplace, firepit, or wood stove, you’ll probably benefit from a dedicated log carrier. These products allow you to comfortably and safely transport large quantities of wood while protecting your clothing from sharp and dirty logs. Plus, by preventing all that dirt and debris from ending up inside your home, you won’t have to break out the broom or vacuum every time you want to get a fire going. Most of these log carriers are also relatively easy to fold up and store away, or hang up by the door when you’re not using them. When considering a log carrier, you’ll need to think about the type and size of wood you’ll be carrying. Open-ended sling-style models are great for hauling extra long branches or logs, and some are even large enough to transport your Christmas tree! More enclosed duffel-bag-style carriers are better suited for those who won’t need to store long items, and are also convenient for containing wood scraps and dirt that might otherwise fall out onto the floor.

If you want additional indoor storage for your logs, you might want to consider a carrier that includes a metal storage rack. These cost a bit more, but the convenience of organizing some of your logs inside could be worth the investment.

Durability is another factor to keep in mind. While most carriers are durable enough for general wear and tear, some are more rugged than others. If you know you’ll be using your carrier frequently, you may want to consider an option that is specifically designed for maximum durability, like the MeloTough Carrier.

While living in the wintery conditions of upstate New York, I gained an extensive amount of experience chopping, stacking, and carrying firewood from one place to another. I used this experience, and my time spent using various styles and sizes of log carriers, to put together this list of options. I paid close attention to online customer feedback and excluded any items that lacked the durability I was looking for, and made sure that regardless of the model, it would be useful and reliable enough for the average homeowner. Since log carriers are fairly basic pieces of equipment, I also kept the prices of most of our options fairly low.

Just because your budget is tight, it doesn’t mean you have to lug loose firewood around all winter. This low-cost carrier is made of durable canvas, and its spacious 36.6 by 17.7–inch capacity will allow you to transport even large logs and branches.

The padded handles also make for a sturdy, comfortable grip, and the waterproof inner layer will keep your logs dry, even if you lay down the bag in snow or damp ground. Despite this rugged construction, this carrier can still be folded up into a relatively small package, making it easy to store when not in use.

The unique design of this carrier features a cross-body strap and large arm “sling,” allowing you evenly distribute the weight of the bag across your entire body—instead of just one hand. This also makes it easy to keep the carrier elevated and unload it one-handed, so you never even have to put it on the ground inside your home.

Its open-ended shape is convenient for tossing in oversized branches and logs, and it can easily support 30 to 35 pounds of wood per trip. The built-in flashlight is also a perk we’ve not seen on any other carrier models.

This Galafire carrier measures an impressive 44 by 21 inches, enabling you to transport practically as much wood as you can carry. The reinforced straps also feature leather handles, which should help make your trips back and force from the woodpile as comfortable as possible.

The 20-ounce waxed-canvas construction gives it both a rustic, vintage look, and is also extremely durable, making it appropriate for other carrying jobs as well. Its lack of sides does require you to balance the load a bit more than duffel-style carriers, though, so keep that in mind.

This versatile carrier includes a steel framed log holder, which can either function as a separate container, or you can use the raised handles to hang the cloth carrier inside. The canvas carrier uses a simple sling design, and since it’s relatively small, would be better suited for smaller kindling as opposed to large logs.

That being said, this design makes the carrier easier to store away when not in use. The steel holder is probably smaller than you might think though, and its 18-inch length might not be large enough for those with a lot of wood to store.

If your priority is maximum durability, this heavy-duty MeloTough carrier could be just what you’re looking for. Made of extra-durable ballistic polyester with reinforced, cross-stitched handles, this carrier is designed to stand up to significant wear and tear.

This robust design also allows it to hold an impressive amount of weight, and the large straps make it easy to carry over your shoulder if it gets really heavy. When you’re finished using it and ready to put it away, you simply roll it up and use the integrated Velcro straps to hold its shape.

It might cost more than most of our other options combined, but if you’re looking for a handcrafted, high-end model, this Enclume carrier is a great pick. The heavy cotton carrier bag works in tandem with the solid steel rack, and fits snugly into its frame so there’s no need to store it somewhere else once you’re inside.

A separate pocket on the side of this large carrier is specifically for storing vertical kindling, which makes it easy to find what you want when building your fire. Its 5-year limited warranty is a nice perk as well.

This wrought-iron carrier is rugged enough to stand up to regular trips out to the wood pile, but its rustic, wrought iron construction also makes for a decorative addition to your living room. Its 11-pound weight does add some extra heft when transporting your logs, but the sturdiness and durability might be worth it.

A pair of handles on either side make it comfortable to carry, and the powder-coated finish should be easy to keep clean. It’s not as affordable as our other picks, but considering that you essentially get a carrier as well as a storage area for your logs once inside, it’s still a pretty good value.

If you’re planning on transporting large quantities of wood, you might want to consider a wheeled cart like this Sunnydaze model. Its dolly-style design makes it simple to load up and comfortable to maneuver wherever you need to go.

The extra-large 10-inch wheels will allow you to roll over uneven and wet surfaces with ease, even when the cart is fully loaded. The powder-coated tubular steel frame makes this model durable enough to handle regular wear and tear, as well as resist rust and other corrosion issues.

It does require a bit of assembly once it arrives, though, so keep that in mind.

If you want to haul a significant amount of firewood with minimal effort, the efficient design of this Worx wheelbarrow carrier could be the perfect fit. You simply load up the wheelbarrow and the open-ended canvas cover keeps any logs from rolling out during transport.

This carrier is also useful for transporting other bulky items like mulch or soil bags. Most importantly, the double-canvas construction and heavy-duty steel frame will be durable enough to last a long time.
